Why do you feel good when you are in open-air baths?
An open-air bath is almost the only place where you can be naked in outdoor.
Getting naked, you will realize the changing seasons in perfect harmony with nature.
There is a hot spring where you can see light of fireflies around rainy season.
Two Different Sources of Spring
Kagoshima is famous for Kirishima Onsen and Ibusuki Onsen, but I would also recommend a rustic spa village, Shibi Onsen.
You will drive from Kirishima to the base of Satsuma Peninsula.
There are three Onsen Ryokans and one common bathhouse in Shibi Onsen.
Hatago Shibisou is an inn that has two different sources of spring, so that you can enjoy the difference between them, in bathrooms filled with hydrogen sulfide‘s smell.
The hotter water in the oval tub looks slight green.
The water temperature is around 126 degrees F with slimy texture.
The square tub’s water is around 106 degrees F, and looks cloudy.
Time goes surprisingly fast while you enjoy the different spring water.
Deer meats are served at dinner.
It must be one of the most luxury experiences to have rare local foods in Ryokan.
When you become full, please take a short break and then go to the open-air bath.
There open-air bath is for private use; you can use it freely as long as there are no previous visitors.
It is surrounded by the dense green forest, and you will have a soak in fresh mountain air.
After sunset in May, I felt something come into sight.
When I switched off lights, there were many fireflies above the stream.
I realized every messy affair in daily life was trivial at all, enjoying the light of fireflies.
