However, it is not well known fact that a Zen Buddhist, Gempo Yamamoto suggested to use this phrase, and the emperor as a symbol of unity of the people.
His life started from this hot spring inn.

Do you think Japan is one of the most advanced countries in terms of hot springs?
Indeed, soaking in hot springs is widely accepted among Japanese people, and the culture relevant to hot springs has a deep history.
However, considering there are much more volcanos that can be a source of the heat in other countries, hot springs could be seen all over the world.
I keenly though it in that way, when I encountered a fantastic hot spring that we should experience even if we need to cross the ocean.

Do you know Gila Hot Springs?
In a campground deep in the mountains of New Mexico, there is the hot springs.
I felt the same kind of atmosphere as secluded Japanese Ryokans’ open-air baths.
Perhaps the reason might be in an unlikely place.

What is the difference between an open-air bath and a swimming pool?
There may be several elements such as water temperature, depth, necessity of clothing, and whether swimming is allowed or not, but none of them seem to completely define an open-air bath.
However, when I soaked in an open-air bath in Mexico, I felt like realizing the essence.

Mexico is a resource-rich nation in terms of hot springs, because it is located on Ring of Fire.
Today I will visit an amazing spot where seems to symbolize the resources.
Gallons of hot spring water are gushing from giant caves, and there is a theme park centering the warm river flowing out.

Is it difficult for a large-seized hotel to have good hot springs?
Indeed, it is usually true, so that small motels with hot springs often provide their water in a better condition.
However, there are some exceptions:
Izura in Ibaragi is one of the most important places for Japanese modern art, and is famous for its beautiful scenery.
In a large-sized hotel at such tourist spot, there is a great hot spring with characteristic smell.

An open-air bath is almost the only place where you can be naked in outdoor.
Getting naked, you will realize the changing seasons in perfect harmony with nature.

What kind of hot springs does the Emperor enjoy, as the national symbol of Japan?
There are three resort villas that imperial families use.
Out of them, Nasu Villa in Tochigi Prefecture has hot spring in it.
In fact, the water is piped from a certain inn, and anyone can enjoy soaking.
